Palarivattom Palam Paattu, a song about the infamous ‘Palarivattom Flyover’

Remya Sarvada Das, a singer and assistant director was on her way to Vytilla from Edapally when she got stuck in a traffic jam near the infamous Palarivattom bridge. As she got quite some time, she observed the fly-over and surroundings. And the result? An extremely fresh music video titled “Palarivattom Paalam Paattu”

“I realised that though the bridge doesn’t serve the purpose for which it was built, it was not totally useless. I could see people taking shelter under it when it rained, there were small settlements of migrant workers, people were eating food down there and so on. And when I thought along those lines I felt the very existence of this bridge is satirical,” Remya said to The Woke Journal.

The artist instantly wrote a few lines that came to her mind and recited it to her friends as she reached home. They loved the idea and encouraged her to develop it further.

“I’m a classical singer and I decided to develop it to a music video. This came true when my friends who work in various fields- actors, camera persons, creative directors and all came together to support my project,” Remya adds.

The song is getting social media traction and is widely getting shared on social media. It has received close to 24,000 views on Youtube so far. The song composed in a semi-classical tune was shot around Chalakkudy and Potta.

“The responses that we are receiving are overwhelming. People said that they can relate to it though it is satirical in nature,” she adds.

Talking about further projects ahead, Ramya says that she would like to take up issues of social relevance to create art. Ramya had also produced a song during the floods last year. The song is produced under the banner of CRC Productions.

Ganga G Nair, Vijayakrishnan A B, Pranav Yesudas, Krishnendu Suresh, Arun K Achuthan, Vishnudas Nandan, Ranjith Mangattu, Dheeraj K Rajaram have acted in the music video.

Remya is famous for being the first runner up of Midukki, a reality show telecast in Mazhavil Manorama. She has also worked as the assistant director of movies like Finals and Pathinettam Padi

Palarivattom fly-over, though a total disaster, seems to be inspiring the creative minds of the city.

It was a month back that, a restaurant in Thalassery named one of its dish “Palarivattom Puttu,” with the tag line ‘a construction prone to collapse on touch’
